Payin’ for change before the election, and having to pay for it immediately after

I certainly don’t mean to sound alarmist with the post title, but that’s what it feels like these days. Especially when you consider the lending industry bailout, the proposed auto industry bailout (which we know is going to happen), Amex has their hands out seeking fed “relief,” and now … mayors across the country are asking for an economic bailout from President-elect Barack Obama. Add to that the move to nationalize healthcare, already taking place in the Senate before Obama officially becomes president, and the confirmation by Obama’s Chief of Staff that “this country needs compulsory civil service.”
And no, I’m not talking about the Bush adminstration but instead the upcoming Obama administration, if this profile piece on Obama’s chief spokesman-turned-press secretary Robert Gibbs is any indication.
Bloomberg sticks a pin in Obama’s “Change” promise balloon by documenting how many of those who are a part of Obama’s transition team – and who very well may land themselves a job in the Obama administration – are some of the same types of Beltway insiders Obama, for the last two years, demonized the Republican party for associating with. Those types of people, Obama repeatedly and forcefully asserted, were exactly what was wrong with Washington, DC.
In a move that has the potential to upset the far left and “civil/human rights activisits,” the Wall Street Journal has a story up today that talks about how Obama is sending signals during the transition phase that it’s “unlikely” that he will make any major changes to our intelligence policy (via Memeo):
