What did you do with your economic stimulus check?
Me? I paid a bill down some, and stocked up on some groceries. But if you’re like Michelle Obama, it wasn’t nearly enough. Why, it’s enough to buy a pair of earrings but that’s about it:

The International Herald Tribune/NYT reports on how certain “media stars” will get ringside seats for Obama’s first trip to overseas since becoming the Democrat nominee for president (via Memeo):
ST reader GWR made a good point in an earlier thread about the idea that Barack Obama might have actually welcomed the controversial New Yorker cover, because it helped him play the victim card and in turn made him an even more sympathetic character to his supporters and undecideds than he had previously appeared.  I’d like to add some additional comments to GWR’s point.
The big story of the day is Barack Obama’s renewed call for refocusing on Afghanistan during a speech he made today in Washington, DC. He called for a “surge” of sorts in troops for Afghanistan, while reminding everyone of how he opposed the Iraq war and believes it should end.
The NYT published a story today that should be considered a must-read. The focus of it is the fact that white late night TV talk show hosts are finding it difficult to joke about Barack Obama, and even though they won’t admit it outright, reading between the lines you can see that it’s primarily due to the fact that he’s black, and they don’t want to be painted with the “you’re a racist” brush.  The article points out that the audiences that attend the shows tend to be consist primarily of white Barack Obama supporters who the comedians don’t want to offend.
Just why would you want to erase from your website your original criticisms of the surge, Mr. Democratic party nominee, hmm? 😕
