Yesterday, I blogged about Larry Sabato clarifying his remarks on whether or not he’d actually heard Senator George Allen use the “n” word. In that post, I also referenced an article nothing his opponent Jim Webb’s shiftiness over answering a question about whether or not he’d used the word. Well, the intrigue over that continues today. I blogged on Monday about comments made by respected UVA professor and political analyst Larry Sabato on Hardball with Chris Matthews regarding the allegations that Senator George Allen supposedly used the “n” word back in his college days and some in the 80s as well. Salon first reported the allegations, quoting three sources, and Sabato’s comments came later. At first, he wouldn’t say how he knew that Allen allegedly said the word, leading to speculation that he’d personally heard Allen use the term when they both attended UVA at the same time, but today he’s clarified:
… and this time not over the word ‘macaca’, but instead – the “n” word. Salon reported three sources earlier today that alleged that Allen used the “n” word back in his college days in the early 70s.
… for all sorts of things perceived to have been racist that he’s said or done in his lifetime. All of this over the ‘macaca‘ flap.
This time it’s Claire McCaskill, the Democrat who wants Missouri Senator Jim Talent’s seat in the US Congress. Here’s what she said:
