The Times Online reports today the desperate measures that France’s Socialist candidate for president Ségolène Royal is pulling out all the stops in order to defeat the conservative Nicolas Sarkozy. The type of demonization taking place is something Democrats here who have done similarly would be proud of (emphasis added):

I enjoyed liveblogging last Thursday’s Democratic presidential candidates’ debate, not so much because I relished watching a bunch of prima donna lefties on national TV, but more because I found it refreshing that MSNBC news anchor Brian Williams maintained the role of impartiality throughout the debate in his questions and I respected overall how he handled himself. In my opinion, how Williams handled the debate should be how all moderators should conduct themselves.
What we’ve heard so far is a mixed bag on Tenet’s book, which hit the shelves yesterday. Conservatives and others who worked with Tenet are disputing some of his accounts, while the media, of course, is obsessively focusing on anything in the book that paints Tenet’s relationship with the administration as ‘strained.’
