I briefly mentioned the story of Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham, who was killed in an IED explosion in Iraq back in April of 2004, in this post of misc. links a few days ago, but wanted to create a separate thread about him, considering today was the day he was posthumously presented with the Medal of Honor. The NYT has a nice write up about the ceremony, and Marine Cpl Dunham:

Monroe was killed in Iraq on October 14th, but he left behind some words to live by for his son, who at the time was not yet born. Canedy writes:

The AP is reporting this morning that the US military has killed a top Taliban commander who they describe as a “close associate of Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar and Afghan insurgent leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar” earlier this week.
