In overnight developments related to the DNC, the Charlotte Observer’s Cleve Wootson reports that Occupy Charlotte – which used to be based on the grounds of Old City Hall until the city beefed up anti-camping ordinances earlier this year, effectively ending the camping – is back in business and has set up camp at Marshall Park uptown:

If you’ve been reading this blog at least for the past year or so you’ve seen my posts in which I’ve described scenarios where Obama could lose the election this fall due to a fall in support from a key voting bloc: the black vote. Record numbers of black people turned out for Obama in 2008 across America, and they propelled him to victory in key states that helped put him over the required number of electoral votes needed to become the next POTUS. NC was one of those states. Traditionally considered a “red state” (NC had not gone red in Presidential elections since Jimmy Carter), Obama was able to flip this state in 2008 narrowly thanks to a strong turnout among youth voters, independents, and black voters.
As I wrote a few days ago, NC8’s Larry Kissell already has an uphill battle going into the fall election what with being an elected Democrat in a district that has been redrawn in such a way that makes it more favorable for a Republican to win. In an attempt to appeal to those voters, Kissell will vote next week to repeal ObamaCare, voted to hold Atty Gen. Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, may skip out on attending the DNC here in Charlotte, and has announced he will not endorse Barack Obama. This, unsurprisingly, has ruffled the feathers of a local black leadership caucus PAC – which announced yesterday it will not support Kissell in his bid to stay in office:
